01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Kimukatsu’s mille-feuille cutlet is made with 25 layers of thinly sliced pork loin, coated in breadcrumbs and fried. The Kimukatsu set meal comes with a choice of 7 cutlet flavours, freshly cooked rice, miso soup, pickles and cabbage. One diner who chose the cheese flavour enjoyed the combination of tender, layered meat and melting cheese. Another visitor noted the crisp coating and soft interior.

Choose a flavour to suit your mood. Plain lets the cutlet speak for itself; other options include the kick of black pepper, the fragrance of plum and shiso, the fresh aroma and heat of yuzu pepper, or the light pairing of spring onion and salt. Cheese and garlic offer more pronounced flavours, giving the layered cutlet a different character with each choice. A diner who ordered the cheese flavour also enjoyed it with sauce and mustard.

For a meal with more than one kind of cutlet, the half-and-fillet cutlet set and half-and-large fried prawn set are options exclusive to the Kyoto Karasuma branch. The fillet cutlet set comes with 3 bite-sized pieces and is a choice for those who would like a different cut of meat from the Kimukatsu. The branch also offers an exclusive beef cutlet set, with a listed weekday lunch price that differs from the regular price.

The rice is cooked to be ready when the cutlets come out of the fryer. Diners have also mentioned the rice served in a rice tub, along with the cabbage, miso soup and pickles, as part of the meal. At the Karasuma branch, you can choose a set focused on a flavour of Kimukatsu or combine it with fillet cutlet or prawns to sample a little of each.
